DPR-901 II Dynamic Equaliser

The Dynamic Equaliser shall have four non-interactive bands of frequency-selective compression or expansion. It shall be possible to use the unit as one nput/one output with four bands, or as two inputs/two outputs with two bands of dynamic equalisation on each section.

Each band shall provide a variable amount of dynamic EXPANSION up to  +16dB or COMPRESSION down to -30dB over a given BANDWIDTH around a particular FREQUENCY, whenever the input signal reaches a certain  THRESHOLD. Bandwidth, frequency and threshold shall also be continuously  variable independently for each frequency band.

Compression and expansion shall be continuously variable on a single control, having a soft-knee dynamic characteristic at low settings which gradually progresses towards a harder characteristic at maximum setting.  This dynamic activity shall be selectable on each band to affect signals BELOW the threshold only.

Attack and Release times shall be automatically programme controlled independently for each band. The  RELEASE profile shall be selectable  FAST on each band to disable the slower levelling stage of the release cycle.
Each frequency band shall have horizontal LED displays which continuously show the amount of compression and expansion occurring whenever the signal level crosses the threshold. A smaller vertical LED column shall continuously show input level relative to the THRESHOLD setting.

The low and high frequency bands shall have BELL/SHELF selection, and the two midrange bands shall have FILTER DEFEAT selection to allow either to perform broadband dynamic control.  Individual IN switches shall be provided for each band, in addition to an overall system EQ IN switch. A system headroom indicator shall be provided to show signal present, +10dBv, +15dBv  and CLIP levels.

It shall be psossible to monitor the  side chain of the unit, so that the effect of the filter may be monitored as an aid to adjustment.

The dynamic equaliser shall be capable of operating at full line level up to +20dBv, with a normal frequency  response of +/-0.5dB 20Hz-20kHz.  Output noise shall always be less than -86dBv CCIR 468-2, and harmonic distortion shall be less than 0.05%. The dynamic equaliser shall be capable of operating from a mains supply of  96v-132v or 192-260v AC 50/60Hz. The dynamic equaliser shall be standard 19" rack mount, 1U (1¾") high. The Dynamic Equaliser shall be the BSS  DPR-901 II.
